Between 1998 and 2002 I was exploring abandoned houses, warehouses, prisons, whatever I could get into without getting into too much trouble. This is the series of photographs I call "RUINS". I found the history of these places fascinating; I loved the idea that I could step back in time and revisit 1970 or whenever it was that the last person set foot in a place. In these photographs I always tried to maintain the sense of authenticity I felt when I was there. I didn't want to tell my story, I wanted my photographs to be a vehicle through which the story of the last people to dwell there could be told one last time. To that end I never moved or placed any items and there were no artificial light sources used. Basically what you see is what the film recorded.
Although the majority of the work was done in the span of those four years, I don't consider this, or any series, a finished project because I know there is always a chance something new is just around the corner.
