The next major series of work I set into was what I call "WRECKS" from about 2002 until 2006. A job assisting architectural photographer Nick Merrick had brought me to New Mexico and while I tried to photograph some houses out there, they didn't have the same feel as the places in Georgia. (The one notable exception being the NM State Penitentiary that had been abandoned since the early eighties.) The Wrecks series began in a similar way though. I wanted again to tell the stories of these lost souls. These cars that had, at one time, been someone's prize possession only to end up in the junk yard. As the project progressed though, my view became tighter and my interest shifted from the item itself to the colors and textures it contained. In fact some of the images in this series are not cars or metals at all but the style and color palette fit better within this series than others.
